How does Mail Porter stop spam?
Mail Porter uses a unique system ensures you'll only receive the email you want and none of the annoying, time-wasting mail you don't!
How does Mail Porter work?
Mail Porter's system accepts email ONLY from authorized senders or from senders who follow your custom instructions automatically sent to them. When Mail Porter receives an email from an address or domain not on your "Allowed" list your custom message is sent back to the sender telling them what to do. The sender simply replys following the instructions and the mail is delivered to you. This is typically a one time process.
What makes Mail Porter's email better?
Currently, spam prevention relies on filtering techniques. These methods are ineffective and can potentially identify legitimate email as spam.
Mail Porter's system ensures you'll receive the email you want.
Do I need to use another email address?
No. Mail Porter can protect all your email accounts against spam. When you sign up, you receive a Mail Porter.net email address. You can forward your current e-mail address to your new Mail Porter address.
How does it work with my current email address?
Any email account that can be automatically forwarded to your Mail Porter account will be processed by the Mail Porter system.
Does Mail Porter protect all other email accounts?
Only if the web-based account can be automatically forwarded to your Mail Porter account. list.
What does the service cost?
MailPorter subscribers pay only $7.95 per month or a discounted annual rate of only $71.40. (That’s only $5.95 per month!)
Am I protected from downloading viruses?
No. Mail Porter only checks your email for viruses. Viruses can be downloaded via websites, instant messaging and file transfers. For your protection, you should still use your desktop anti-virus software.
What is the Allowed List?
The ALLOWED list contains addresses and domains, or Subject lines that you have verified as legitimate. Addresses, domain names and subject lines can be added to this list. Addresses you no longer want to accept can be easily removed from your Allowed list.
What is the Blocked Sender List?
The Blocked Senders List contains addresses from which you allowed at one time but no longer wish to receive email from. Emails received from addresses on this list are deleted instantly.
What happens when I am expecting an email receipt?
The simplest way to ensure you receive email receipts is to manually add the sender, domain it is coming from or subject to your "Allowed Senders" List, or you can simply check the HOLD folder to view rejected messages.
What happens with my newsletters?
To ensure you keep receiving newsletters add the address or domain of the newsletter to your "Allowed Subject" list. Many newletters include a unique identifer in the subject line that can be easily added to your Allowed list.
Also some mailing-list software uses a different address on the envelope than in the message. You can find this "Envelope Sender" address for a message in the daily report or by looking at the message headers for the X-MPReport: line.
Why are messages I've permitted still being placed in the holdfolder?
Usually this is because you have permitted the address you see "in" the message and this is different from the "envelope" address.
Are we going to have trouble with this?
No! We have taken great care to make this product simple and easy to use. You will experience email as it used to be, SPAM FREE!
Are we going to violate Internet Standards?
No. Mail Porter follows all WC3 standards and practices.
How do I back up my accept list and my deny list
While you are in the MailPorter configuration screen simply highlight and copy the list then and paste into a spreadsheet ( Excel, OpenOffice Calc, etc. ) When you paste into the spread sheet you may need to select "paste special" and select "test" to keep the column separate.
Messages are disappearing ( or aren't showing up ) in my daily report. Where did they go?
There are three reasons for messages to disappear/not-appear in the daily reports. 1) They are older than the keepdays so are purged. 2) They have already been in a daily report. 3) You accessed the "hold" folder and viewed the message.
When I log into the web mail interface I receive a warning that my account is almost full and
I should delete messages to prevent mail bouncing. What should I do?
You have a couple of options. You can select the hold folder and select "delete all". This will delete all the messages. This process may be time consuming if you are on a dial-up connection. You can also go to the MailPorter Configuration page and under "Special Settings" "what to do with my unwanted mail" and select "delete it" and then "Make it so". This will delete the messages. You may also want to shorten the days the messages are kept in your hold before they auto delete to 3 days
